Call for 2025-26 Trainee Nominations

Our NEI T32 Training Program in Vision Science has funding for four predoctoral trainees, with appointments to start September 1, 2025.  This is a call for faculty to nominate trainees, with nominations due May 15.  Please distribute this email widely to colleagues that may be new to our vision research community.

Trainees are selected by the Advisory Committee and subject to NEI approval. Trainees must be US Citizens or Green Card holders with less than 4 cumulative years of previous NIH training support (T32s and NRSA mechanisms). Trainees previously supported by this T32 may be re-nominated for an additional year of support but should show significant progress in their research to be competitive.  Faculty are particularly urged to seek out and nominate individuals from under-represented groups.

Predoctoral nominations must include:

  1. Faculty trainer letter describing
    • Student’s qualifications
    • Current funding and research environment: how will you support the student’s work?
    • Training record, noting former trainees supported by this T32 and their current positions
  2. One page description of the research project, written by the student with input from trainer
  3. Half-page description of the student’s long-term plans/goals and how the program will benefit, written by the student
  4. Student’s NIH Biosketch
  5. Academic transcript, qualifying exam outcomes, graduate group affiliation and expected PhD completion date

Send nomination packet as a single pdf to Theresa Geer (tgeer@ucdavis.edu) by May 15.
